Rachel Shipley Laughlin

Again the death angel has cast its shadowy wings over our community and called from this world of care, Mrs. Rachel Laughlin, to unspeakable joys on high. Aunt Rachel, as she was best known, fell April 15, 1919, and fractured her hipbone of which she suffered intense pain for four weeks. Through these four weeks of pain she never murmured but bore her suffering with the greatest patience. She sweetly fell asleep in Jesus May 11, 1919, on Mother's Day -- the day of all days. She lived a true Christian godly life, always in which she had lived since early girlhood. Her husband, G. C. Laughlin preceded her to the glory world of which she spoke, four years and three days. Look up, dear children, mother can't come to you, but you can go to her and make an unbroken family in heaven, which was her daily and hourly prayer.
She was born in East Tennessee in the year 1848 and when but a child came to Missouri where she lived the remainder of her life.
To this union four children were born, Mrs. Lee Harper, John S. Laughlin, George O. Laughlin and a baby boy who died in infancy. She professed faith in Christ very early in life and united with the South M. E. Church of which she lived a devoted member and a consecrated life. She will not only be missed by her home, but in the church and Sunday School, but her prayers and influence will live on. She was a fond and loving Mother and a friend to everyone. Besides her children, she leaves 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, one brother and a host of friends and relatives to mourn her departure.
Funeral services were conducted at the M. E. Church by Rev. Goodnight of Purdy, after which the body was laid to rest in the Roller Cemetery.
